Organize for a walk, run, swim, or a bike ride.

We have a large, sometimes obnoxious, yellow lab named Cleo.

Cleo needs a daily walk to mellow her out.

I also require a daily walk to mellow out.

Sometimes a few of my friends and their dogs come along.

If you are a dog walker you are well aware that dogs usually need to stop, sniff and make a deposit or two during your walk.

Sure enough, one friend had to clean up her dog’s deposit.

Then the unthinkable happened.  The bag she used to hold the dog deposit had a hole in it and it leaked unmentionables onto her hand!   Ewwww!

I may look like a dork wearing a fanny pack but I’m a “prepared for dog mishaps” dork.

I reached into my very uncool walking accessory called a fanny pack (once popular in another decade) and saved the day with a bottle of hand sanitizer and gave it to my friend who had previously and relentlessly made fun of my fanny pack.  Then I pulled out a Kleenex for her hands and then….a fresh plastic bag, free of holes.

I may look like a dork wearing a fanny pack but I’m a “prepared for dog mishaps” dork.

My is always ready to go, has lots of pockets filled with band aids, tissues, plastic bags, a note pad and a pen, for the millions of ideas that pop into my head, and a dollar bill for potential lemonade stands.

I’m not going to start a “bring back the fanny pack” campaign, at least not until mine wears out.   Rather I suggest that you put together items that will come in handy for certain outings.  When it’s time to leave on the outing, just grab your not so dorky bag and go.

Dog walk:

  • Plastic bags
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Bandaids
  • Tissues

Bike ride/Hike:

  • Tissues
  • Band aids
  • Bug repellant
  • Sunscreen
  • Water

Park with Kids:

  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Sunscreen
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug repellant
  • Tissues

What are you going to put together so you are prepared for your next outing?
