Welcome to day 12 of the Kitchen Clutter Clear Out, Cooking Utensils.

How many drawers of cooking utensils do you have?  More than one or two?  Can you find the utensils you want when you want to use them? Today might be a fine day to simplify and streamline your utensils.

This is my utensil drawer……

and my utensil crock.

Is it time for you to pare down?  Grab a few bags/boxes to hold the utensils you decide to donate.  Let’s get this decluttering show on the road.

No need to be afraid, this is gonna be fun and liberating.

Clear off a nice big sorting area on your counter, kitchen table, or set up a card table for a temporary sorting space, then open your utensil drawers

Don’t forget to remove all of the utensils from your crocks, if you also use these for storage.

Wipe out the drawers and crock.

Sort the utensils into piles: spatulas, spoons, measuring cups and spoons, knives, tongs, and so on.  I ask you to do this so you can really get a good picture of what you own and how many you own of each.

Once you have them grouped into piles, pull out your absolute favorite, “go-to” utensils and return them to the drawer(s) or your crock.  You may categorize them in the drawers and use drawer dividers like I did.  This prevents a jumbled mess of utensils. If they are used daily, a crock is a nice way to organize those utensils and keep them very handy.

Look at what you have left.  Toss broken items and donate utensils you haven’t used because they aren’t quite right.  If you haven’t used it in a year or more, out it goes.  If you find you miss it, how hard and costly will it be to replace it?  (I bet you won’t even miss it)

Be ruthless.  Your utensil drawers aren’t for items you “might” use “someday.”

Simply,

Jill
